Some of our focus areas include but are not limited to the following:
The goal is to get you feeling better! I use evidenced-based practices to help you transform the way you think, so you can act and feel different. At first, I will work to get to know you and figure out the best treatment plan. Many times, this will include techniques of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) or Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP).
Treatment typically starts with weekly counseling sessions and homework. If you have a phobia or panic attacks, we may add real-world experiments taken a little bit at a time with you reporting back on what you experienced. Before tackling these experiments, you’ll learn and practice relaxation techniques and a toolbox of techniques to help.
I provide support for you to get to the root of your anxiety/phobia, identify your faulty thinking and beliefs, figure out what’s going on in your body when you feel anxious or have a panic attack and push through the fear one step at a time.
I’ve seen clients in their darkest days—times when they are having trouble even getting out of bed, brushing their teeth and getting the very basics of life done. You may be experiencing feelings of sadness, isolation, loneliness, and may be losing hope. If this is you, I have empathy. I will work with you on breaking the cycle of depression based on what you are experiencing in your daily life. We will create a plan of care and get to the core of your depression. Sessions can take place more than once weekly if needed and I will share appropriate resources if you need more intensive treatment. I take an eclectic approach, incorporating techniques based on the needs of the client.
If you are doubting yourself, feeling triggered by your child’s behavior, burned out, need someone to listen to what you are going through or want to find new ways of parenting, I may be a good fit. I teach skills and tools to help you and am never cookie cutter in my approach. I work with individuals, families and couples with a team approach using principles of positive parenting and family systems therapy.
My goal is to help you create a home environment that works for you. Sometimes, we will uncover unexpected things along the way and can address them. This might be a parent’s mental health diagnosis, marriage and relationship issues, self-esteem challenges, struggles with one’s own parent(s), mid-life difficulties or buried trauma.
Being a parent of a child with special/support needs is one of the most challenging lives to live. I am passionate about ensuring that parents and caregivers receive their own care. I believe that your wants, needs and dreams matter. Together, we will partner to acknowledge the triumphs and process the trials. You will learn how to grieve the life that you thought you would have and move forward to fully living the life that you’ve got.
I help my clients with parenting strategies and resources along with daily coping skills. We may identify triggers and process past trauma that impacts you as a parent and work on your anxiety, depression, or other mental health diagnoses.
I have a heart for moms and believes that everyone deserves to feel supported and cared for during the adjustment to becoming a mom, whether through birth or adoption. We examine how you are feeling mentally and physically, exploring your feelings, moods and emotions. Some moms deal with issues of self-esteem, identity and relationship issues during this adjustment period. We provide counseling to determine how life has changed, who you are now, and what you need. After conducting an assessment, we will see what is going on and come up with a plan. I can coordinate care with your OB/GYN and provide referrals if you need a higher level of care, such as in-patient or intensive outpatient services.
Infertility can be incredibly painful-- the wanting, the wishing, the anger and sadness that feels unbearable at times. I experienced this journey personally and remember these feelings well. I’m here to learn about your unique experience and what you and/or your partner or husband/wife are going through. I help clients navigate how infertility is impacting different areas of their life, how to live with less stress and more peace, and provide a space for you to process which decisions may be right for you. We may also tackle issues of anxiety, depression, new mental health symptoms or an increase in previous mental health symptoms.
I consider it an honor to learn about your loved one and provide a place where you can talk about their death, but also about who they were and what they meant to you. This is a space where you can cry, laugh at silly memories and share what hurts the most. I may help you come up with rituals and tangible ways to remember your loved one (s), advise you on how to help your loved ones or children/grandchildren through their grieving process, assist in working through guilt and shame, and help with your darkest days when you don’t know how you will go on without your loved one.
I work with those who have recently experienced grief and loss, as well as those who have unresolved issues from the past related to grief. I provide assessment along the way for issues that have come up, offering targeted treatment for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and grief that has become complicated and is impacting relationships, work and other areas of life. I aim to help you process grief and move through your new normal with a goal of better functioning.
I love working with teens and kids and try to make counseling fun and interactive for them. I consider you to be the expert on your child and partner with you throughout the process. Techniques used include play therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) for older kids and teens, narrative therapy, and client-centered therapy. I add music and art when it’s a good fit. I get to know teens and kids and find out what makes them unique, including their interests in sessions.
I’ve played football, kicked balls, played hopscotch and board games, and taken walks (with parental/guardian permission) during sessions to help teens and kids share more of what is on their minds. I bring parents, stepparents, and guardians in on a regular basis to help kids practice skills, coordinate with the family and work on communication and parent/child relationships.
Every stage of life has its challenges. I work with people on their journeys through marriage/engagement, new jobs, moving, break-ups, mid-life transitions and more. Clients may find a place of healing and come away with a clearer picture of their desired future, along with help for the steps needed to get there. I take an eclectic and client-centered approach and sometimes incorporate techniques of art therapy and narrative therapy, when appropriate.
